Marine go "Toward the Sounds of Chaos" and ad goes to healing them

What the DOD does causes me to scream half the time, breaks my heart the rest, especially when it comes to military suicides. Medicating PTSD is not treating it, but they keep doing just that. When these men and women are reminded of why they wanted to serve in the first place, it goes a long way to actually healing them. Simple as that step is, it opens the door for them to see they are not evil just because they were exposed to what war does.

News broke widely yesterday that the Marine Corps was about to unveil a new advertising campaign with the slogan, “Toward the Sounds of Chaos.” It was initially billed as a look at the softer side of the service, but if the first video is any indication, it’s far more than that.

When I am in a group of veterans or active duty servicemen and women, I can usually spot the Marines right away. It is the way they carry themselves. I had the honor of being with a group of them in Apopka the other night when they came from California to go on a fishing trip. The Orlando DAV hosted a dinner for them. Some had two tours, some had three, one had three tours in Iraq and two in Afghanistan. They are my daughter's age so the Mom in me comes out when I am around them.

What they say usually comes back to the beginning of their service and why they wanted to when less than 1% of the population is serving today. They wanted to protect the country but they also wanted to do some good in this world. I have never heard a single one of them saying they wanted to "kill" as their reason to join. They wanted to SERVE, serve the nation, serve each other, be like their parent, do something for someone else. They need to be reminded of this when they are dealing with what they had to go through to do it.

This ad can do that. The Marines wanted to change the tone of missions to recruit more but in the end I really believe they will change the tone of what they deal with when they come back home.

Where chaos looms, the Few emerge. Marines move toward the sounds of tyranny, injustice and despair—with the courage and resolve to silence them. By ending conflict, instilling order and helping those who can't help themselves, Marines face down the threats of our time.
