Kimberly Brown was relaxing in her west Fayetteville apartment with some television Friday night when she smelled smoke and saw firetrucks come through the gate into the complex's parking lot.

In the next 30 minutes, she heard pounding footsteps, men banging on doors, water spraying the outside of her apartment building and gunfire.

Brown's upstairs neighbor, Fort Bragg Army Staff Sgt. Joshua Paul Eisenhauer, was involved in a shootout and standoff with police. He ended up critically injured and charged with 30 felonies, including 15 counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Two police officers suffered minor injuries. One was treated at the scene, the other at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, police said.

And Brown spent the night in a Fayetteville fire station.

The incident started about 10 p.m. Friday when someone reported a fire at Austin Creek Apartments on Capeharbor Court, which is off 71st School Road between Raeford Road and Cliffdale Road, the Police Department said.

Brown said firefighters knocked on residents' doors, asking if they had a fire in their units.

She saw two go up to the third floor, she said, and then heard them talking to Eisenhauer, asking him to open the door.

He refused, Brown said.

COLUMBUS, Ohio --
A soldier suspected of killing his girlfriend is dead after an all-night manhunt ended with a police-involved shooting early Friday.

Columbus police said Juvon Williams, 18, shot his girlfriend, Leigh Belyn, 18, at her home on Medalist Drive Thursday night.

The manhunt began when Columbus medics and police were called to a home in the 4000 block of Nafzgar Drive on a report of shooting at about 7:36 p.m. Thursday.

Police said they received a call that a man had exited the house saying that someone was dead.

No victim was found at the home, but police said they received information that led them to Belyn's home on Medalist Drive. Upon arrival, police said they found the doors of the home open and a crime scene inside.

"It was very evident to the officers when they walked into that room that a violent crime had occurred," said Columbus police Sgt. Rich Weiner.

About 40 minutes later, Westerville police called Columbus police saying that Williams' car was found on South Spring Street just south of Huber Village Blvd. in Westerville. Belyn's body was found inside the vehicle, but there was no sign of Williams.

The Arizona Senator, the man who wanted to be President, none other than John McCain said, "maybe you need this in New Jersey, but we don't need this in Arizona" when asked why he as against the suicide prevention bill. You'd think that as a Senator, he'd be very aware of what veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan come home with. It isn't just suicides but crimes committed because they didn't get the help they needed. Jeremiah Pulaski knew how to use a weapon but the man he shot was not killed, suggesting he didn't want to kill him. The man he shot was still shot over some words said. Pulaski's family and friends are left stunned by what happened as they prepare for a funeral that didn't need to happen. Police officers are dealing with a shooting that didn't need to happen.

Ann Lupeika says that even though her step-nephew died in Phoenix, Jeremiah Pulaski was a victim of the war in Afghanistan.

Pulaski was fatally shot early Saturday morning by a Glendale police sergeant who authorities said was returning fire.

Pulaski 24, had recently returned from an Army stint in Afghanistan.

"He's my hero," said Lupeika. "I feel really bad that it came down to whatever happened that night."

Police said that about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Jeremiah Wilson Pulaski and a friend left Tony's Cocktail Lounge near 59th Avenue and Greenway Road. A man approached them and the conversation turned hostile. Pulaski drew a handgun and shot the man, who did not suffer life-threatening injuries, police said.

Veteran, volunteer firefighter threatening suicide opens fire on deputies

PBSO: Man threatening suicide opens fire on deputies

5:01 PM EST, March 4, 2009

WEST DELRAY - A suicidal resident at Kings Point retirement community got into a shootout with deputies who showed up shortly before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday to try to prevent the man from killing himself, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said.

"Put it down! Put it down! Put it down!" deputies screamed outside the condo at 760 Normandy P.

But Dallas Adkins, Jr., 59, fired his rifle at them and the bullet hit a ballistic shield, investigators said. The two deputies shot back several times.

"Deputies knocked on the door, and he answered the door with a weapon in his hand," sheriff's spokeswoman Teri Barbera said.

It is unclear where Adkins shot from, deputies said. The window next to his door was blown out.

Neighbors described him as a gentleman loner who helped ladies with their grocery bags and called men "Sir." Adkins rented a one-bedroom condominium at Kings Point for about a year and worked at a nearby Publix grocery store. In Colorado, where he grew up, Adkins volunteered for about 20 years as a firefighter in Golden, a suburb of Denver. He gave it up about 10 years ago, officials there said.

Austin TX rookie police officer called hero after shootout

Austin police close 7 campuses, kill man armed with AK-47
By JANET ELLIOTT Austin Bureau
Nov. 6, 2008, 5:22PM
AUSTIN — A man armed with an assault rifle and wearing body armor was shot and killed by a rookie police officer in an early-morning shootout on this city's east side.

The shooting came after an attack that left two other men wounded and spurred Austin school district officials to call off classes at seven campuses in that area for the day.

Police Chief Art Acevedo praised the young officer as a hero. The dead suspect is believed to have been involved in the earlier shooting that left two people wounded at a nearby residence.

The fatal shooting occurred after a chase in which a pickup truck that was seen leaving the residence crashed into a closed hamburger stand while fleeing police.

Five men ran away from the truck, one of them firing an AK-47 at police, Acevedo said.
