Wednesday was the 75th anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor, which marked the beginning of World War II. A heavy military presence was on hand for both days of the event, which was held at Bloch Arena on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

“It’s great because being here is a pleasure,” Delgado said. “Not everybody can be here, playing in front of people that will die for you. That’s really something. It’s really special to have this opportunity.”

Peter Dupre, a 97-year old World War II veteran who served a medic treating the wounded at the Battle of the Bulge, performed the national anthem on harmonica.

Veteran Sang National Anthem in Front of Whining Protestor

Do they actually teach what respect is there? The young woman seems to think that the veteran, who risked his life for this country, did not deserve any respect at all. Freedom of speech does not trump the rights of others to do the same. It is about time folks understood the full impact of the 1st Amendment.
Amendment I. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
My Dad and my Uncles served and so did my Husband and his Dad and his Uncles. What they are doing is showing disrespect to every generation that thought this country, as imperfect as it is, was worth dying for. She couldn't even stop whining long enough to think about that.

A peaceful protest during the national anthem before Alabama's last home game was disrupted by a proud veteran, and the incident was captured on video.

Protesters saying that the way the veteran interrupted them was uncalled for, but the veteran says he was well within his rights.

"#BamaSits is a peaceful protest. We are protesting social injustice. We support underrepresented LGBTQ community and people of color against discrimination and we're also protesting against police brutality," Emerald Vaughn said.

Sunny 105.9 Paco Lopez Not Ashamed of National Anthem

Paco Lopez has been playing Whitney Houston singing the Star Spangled Banner everyday at noon.  This is in response to some athletes deciding they would rather sit or kneel instead of acknowledging while this nation is not perfect, some are risking their lives everyday because it is even worth dying for.
This is Paco at the opening of Rock and Brews in Oviedo. Paco is a Marine, you know because "once a Marine always a Marine" and he's the one remembering our veterans at the VA.

The coolest thing is, he plays some of the calls coming in thanking him for doing it.

Today someone called in and said that he was in his garage working, stopped, put his hand over his heart when his neighbor was walking his dog, stopped to ask him what he was doing.  When he told him, the man stopped, put his hand over his heart and the dog sat down.

So if you want to turn to Sunny 105.9 at noon on Monday. I look forward to it now especially when I think of the price paid by those serving today and those carrying the weight of their service from before so guys and make millions playing a game and sit it out. Oh, by the way, according to Forbes it looks like a lot more Americans think this country is worth taking a few minutes to honor.

NFL's TV Ratings Continue Slide Amidst National Anthem Protests

Whitney Houston - Star Spangled Banner
CavBuffaloSoldier

Among the annals of national anthems as a prelude to sporting events, few have topped the one delivered by Whitney Houston before Super Bowl XXV in 1991 in Tampa. A woman, her incredible voice and the bare minimum of extraneous notes. Her rendition came at a particularly patriotic time, just after the onset of the Persian Gulf War, and was released as a single. It was re-released after the September 11th terrorist attacks. Houston donated all proceeds to charity. She ranks among the best of all-time because of the circumstances and ... that voice..

A video screen grab shows Tech. Sgt. Johnny Holliday playing the "Star Spangled Banner" on Dec. 27, 2015, before the start of an NFL game in Minneapolis. YOUTUBE

National Anthem Performance 27 Dec 2015...This has got to be the coldest environment I have EVER performed in (14º)...this was one of the most memorable moments in my life...as you'll be able to see at the end of the performance.
There was a series of high notes in the chill of TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Sunday night: Harrison Smith's interception for a Minnesota Vikings touchdown, for example; Teddy Bridgewater's touchdown passes; Blair Walsh's long field goal.

And, before any of that, was the high G that Johnny Holliday hit and held before 40,000 fans and a national TV audience on the coldest stage he'd ever played.

"I couldn't feel my mouthpiece ... is it on my face?" Holliday recalled in a jocular phone interview Tuesday. "It was cold. I pushed a New York Giant out of the way so I could put my face in the blower."

Holliday's trumpet rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" was stirring enough, but his enthusiastic – and unusual – celebration when it was over set the crowd roaring even louder.

"Out of all the performances I've done in my career, I've never done that before," he said, "especially in uniform. There was just so much going on that night, and that and the high note were the only outlet I had."

KTVA reported back in October that AJ had served in the military for 20 years of active service including the Vietnam War.
A video from October is making the rounds on Facebook on the heels of Veteran's Day, and with good reason.

Alaska Airlines passenger Julia Collman Jette posted a video to Facebook from the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport of customer service agent Denise Snow, singing the national anthem in tribute to a veteran named AJ, whose ashes she learned would be traveling on their flight from Anchorage to Seattle.

The passengers stood in silence as the employee sang a beautiful, heartwarming rendition of the national anthem.

The charity, which was founded by a group of Maryland high school students in 2012, has raised close to one million dollars since its inception. This weekend the group brought in $23,975.
Performer Janine Stange has made history for a second time.
Stange, also known as the “National Anthem Girl,” first made headlines in August 2014 when she became the first person to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” in all 50 states.

This past weekend, the Los Angeles resident sang the national anthem 24 times in 24 hours.

The performances were held in conjunction with a tournament hosted by Shootout for Soldiers, an organization that hosts 24-hour-long lacrosse events to raise money for wounded American military members. Throughout those 24 hours, 24 lacrosse teams from the region played hourly games. Stange kicked off each game with a rendition of the anthem.
