The Lyndon Johnson tapes: Richard Nixon's 'treason'

The Lyndon Johnson tapes: Richard Nixon's 'treason'
BBC

March 22, 2014

Declassified tapes of President Lyndon Johnson's telephone calls provide a fresh insight into his world. Among the revelations - he planned a dramatic entry into the 1968 Democratic Convention to re-join the presidential race. And he caught Richard Nixon sabotaging the Vietnam peace talks... but said nothing.

After the Watergate scandal taught Richard Nixon the consequences of recording White House conversations none of his successors has dared to do it. But Nixon wasn't the first.

He got the idea from his predecessor Lyndon Johnson, who felt there was an obligation to allow historians to eventually eavesdrop on his presidency.

"They will provide history with the bark off," Johnson told his wife, Lady Bird.

The final batch of tapes released by the LBJ library covers 1968, and allows us to hear Johnson's private conversations as his Democratic Party tore itself apart over the question of Vietnam.
We now know...
After the Viet Cong's Tet offensive, White House doves persuaded Johnson to end the war Johnson loathed Senator Bobby Kennedy but the tapes show he was genuinely devastated by his assassination

He feared vice-president Hubert Humphrey would go soft on Vietnam if elected president The BBC's Charles Wheeler would have been under FBI surveillance when he met administration officials in 1968

In 1971 Nixon made huge efforts to find a file containing everything Johnson knew in 1968 about Nixon's skulduggery

By the time of the election in November 1968, LBJ had evidence Nixon had sabotaged the Vietnam war peace talks - or, as he put it, that Nixon was guilty of treason and had "blood on his hands".

The BBC's former Washington correspondent Charles Wheeler learned of this in 1994 and conducted a series of interviews with key Johnson staff, such as defence secretary Clark Clifford, and national security adviser Walt Rostow.

But by the time the tapes were declassified in 2008 all the main protagonists had died, including Wheeler.

Now, for the first time, the whole story can be told.

It begins in the summer of 1968. Nixon feared a breakthrough at the Paris Peace talks designed to find a negotiated settlement to the Vietnam war, and he knew this would derail his campaign.

He therefore set up a clandestine back-channel involving Anna Chennault, a senior campaign adviser.

At a July meeting in Nixon's New York apartment, the South Vietnamese ambassador was told Chennault represented Nixon and spoke for the campaign. If any message needed to be passed to the South Vietnamese president, Nguyen Van Thieu, it would come via Chennault.

In late October 1968 there were major concessions from Hanoi which promised to allow meaningful talks to get underway in Paris - concessions that would justify Johnson calling for a complete bombing halt of North Vietnam. This was exactly what Nixon feared.

NEW: Obama honors 24 veterans with the Medal of Honor
White House says they were passed over for the top medal because of discrimination
Only three of them are still alive; they served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam

(CNN) -- If not for the hue of their skin or their ethnicity, 24 soldiers who faced death in service to their nation would have received the most prestigious medals for their valor long ago.

But they were born and fought in a time when such deeds were not always fairly acknowledged.

On Tuesday, the U.S. government corrected the oversight.

President Barack Obama honored 24 Army veterans with the Medal of Honor -- the country's highest military award, given to American soldiers who display "gallantry above and beyond the call of duty " -- for their combat actions in Vietnam, Korea and World War II.

"Some of these soldiers fought and died for a country that did not always see them as equal," Obama said during a ceremony at the White House. "...Their courage almost defies imagination."

Only three of the soldiers are alive to receive the recognition.

The rest -- soldiers with last names including Garcia and Weinstein and Negron -- are dead.

Of the 24 honored, 10 never came home. The body of one -- Cpl. Joe Baldonado -- has never been recovered, Obama said.

For the few who survive, such as Melvin Morris, this day has been more than 40 years in the making.

WASHINGTON — Spc. Santiago J. Erevia had orders to tend the wounded while the rest of the platoon pressed on attacking. But when he and the men under his care came under fire from four nearby Viet Cong bunkers on May 21, 1969, Erevia didn’t dive for cover.

Instead, he gathered up spare weapons and ran into a storm of bullets.

He knocked out one bunker after another with hand grenades as gunners in the others fired on him. Out of grenades and with one bunker still active, he took an M-16 in each hand and charged, shooting down the last defender at point blank range.

Former Sgt. 1st Class Melvin Morris, one of the three living Medal of Honor candidates who will soon receive the award, is getting the honor for taking out enemy bunkers with grenades and rescuing wounded teammates, despite his own injuries, in Vietnam.

For that, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross in 1969.

Morris said he was thrilled to receive a call from President Obama last May to tell him his award would be upgraded.

“I dropped to my knees,” said Morris, who volunteered for two tours in Vietnam. “He told me he was calling to tell me I was receiving the Medal of Honor, and he wanted to apologize to me for not getting it years ago.”

He is one of 24 people who will receive the Medal of Honor, the White House announced Feb. 21.

Of those, 21 have died.

Brief history lesson on VA Budget

Brief history lesson on VA Budget
Left over from the Clinton Administration we had this
Before Afghanistan and Iraq we had Gulf War veterans not being taken care of as well as Vietnam veterans. The American Legion was fighting for the Gulf War veterans.

The Legion has also been fighting for increased funding for so-called “undiagnosed illnesses,” such as “Gulf War Syndrome” and other unexplained sicknesses that plague military veterans.
There were 9,000 Gulf War veterans suffering.

Later on in 2005 with Afghanistan and Iraq producing more wounded veterans, we had this report.
THE IMPACT OF PRESIDENT BUSH’S BUDGET ON VETERANS’ HEALTH CARE just for an idea of how bad it was.

CNN Reported this.

Democrats slam budget cuts for veterans' services
Pa. governor: Bush budget cuts for critical programs 'unconscionable'

Saturday, March 19, 2005

(CNN) -- The governor of Pennsylvania on Saturday said the federal government must do a better job helping America's war veterans and criticized proposed budget cuts affecting them.

"During this time of war, it is absolutely the wrong time for our federal government to step back from any of its commitments to our veterans. To do so would be penny wise but pound foolish," said Gov. Ed Rendell in the weekly Democratic radio address.

"In today's parlance, the cost of health care for these vets may be half a billion dollars but their sacrifice for our nation, priceless," he said.

His remarks followed the weekly radio address of President Bush, who defended the Iraqi invasion and operation and marked its second anniversary. Rendell said that Pennsylvania and other states have programs helping veterans and their families.

"While we the governors do all we can for our vets and our returning soldiers, our federal government still has the primary responsibility for meeting the needs of our veterans. And that's why I find the president's budget cuts for critical veteran services to be unconscionable."

He maintained that budget cuts include "a $350 million reduction in veterans home funding, which wipes out at least 5,000 veterans' nursing home beds."

"If the president's proposed budget cuts are enacted, nearly 60 percent of the 1,600 veterans will lose their daily stipend that allows them to stay in our state's nursing homes, literally forcing them out into the cold."

Do you think we can finally cut the crap out of our conversations about how bad it is for our veterans by finally acknowledging we've heard it all before and it has gotten worse?

Maybe congress will finally get serious about fixing the VA once and for all the right way so we don't repeat all the mistakes of the past all over again.

UPDATE
Marco Rubio Rewrites Government Shutdown History
Huffington Post
Zach Carter
Posted: 10/20/2013

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) on Sunday attempted to distance himself from the government shutdown strategy he and other potential GOP presidential candidates in the Senate pursued for much of the summer, arguing that blame for the shutdown rests with President Barack Obama.

"I was never in favor of shutting down the government or of defunding the government. I was in favor of voting to fund the government fully," Rubio said on "Fox News Sunday" with Chris Wallace. "The only thing I didn't want to see is us wasting any more money on Obamacare, which is already a disaster."

Rubio, along with Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.), led the Senate-side GOP push for the government shutdown strategy. Over the summer, Rubio refused to back any funding package for the federal government that would allow the health care law to go into effect. Absent a funding bill, the government would be forced to shut down.

"On this issue we’re willing to fight no matter what the consequences, politically or otherwise [are]. If that issue is not Obamacare, I can’t understand what issue it would be," Rubio told conservative talk radio host Mark Levin in August. "You cannot say you are against Obamacare if you are willing to vote for a law that funds it."

Done deal: Obama signs debt bill into law
By Carrie Dann

That works out to a $24 billion bite out of the American economy, a number that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi cited on the House floor before the vote.

After weeks of stalemate that shuttered the government for 16 days and brought the nation within hours of a key deadline to renew its borrowing authority, the standoff is finally over.

President Barack Obama has signed into law a bill to re-open the government and extend the debt ceiling – just hours after the House and Senate passed the measure with broad bipartisan support.

Obama said the measure would immediately restart federal programs that had been put on hold during the funding lapse.

“We will begin reopening our government immediately,” he said in remarks before the House passed the bill. “And we can begin to lift this cloud of uncertainty and unease from our businesses and the American people.”

Vietnam vets shut down The Butler movie because of Jane Fonda

Vietnam vets shut down Fonda movie showing in Wellsville
Wellsville Daily
By John Anderson
Daily Reporter
Posted Sep 01, 2013

Moviegoers in Wellsville had a choice of two movies on Friday night, once they walked past a group of Vietnam veterans 20 strong.

The veterans, who were right around the corner from their American Legion post at the Grand Theater on North Main Street, were upset Jane Fonda was portraying former First Lady Nancy Reagan in the movie, "The Butler."

'These guys are Vietnam vets and when you are 18, 19 or 20 and you hear she is applauding planes being shot down ... and I don't know what is true and not true, but it burns in your mind," said Skip Merrick, one of the protesters. "One my my jobs (during the Vietnam war) was seeing the planes off and making sure they were back. When one plane did not come back in the order I sent them out ..."

Merrick's voice trails off. But the chants of "Vets don't forget, no Fonda here," from the protesters rang on from 6 p.m. to almost 10 p.m.

According to the theater release, The Butler, "Tells the story of a White House butler who served eight American presidents over three decades. The film traces the dramatic changes that swept American society during this time, from the civil rights movement to Vietnam and beyond, and how those changes affected this man's life and family."

The first five people to go to the 7 p.m. showing opted to see Grown Ups 2, a comedy, showing in the smaller theater upstairs.

MOH Ty Carter deserved better from the press

MOH Ty Carter deserved better from the press

Washington Post Correction is already done for the original article about Ty Carter receiving the Medal of Honor.
●An Aug. 27 A-section article about Army Staff Sgt. Ty M. Carter being awarded the Medal of Honor incorrectly said President Obama noted that Spec. Edward W. Faulkner Jr., a survivor of the same 2009 battle in eastern Afghanistan, committed suicide less than a year later after struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder. Obama did not mention suicide, saying only that Faulkner “eventually lost his own life back home.” A death certificate says Faulkner died of an accidental methadone overdose, with PTSD a “contributing” factor.
This is the whole video from the White House.

You can hear exactly what President Obama said. It is 20.59 minutes long. The press cannot do what I do with videos because they have someone telling them how much time they get to spend on an assignment. While reporters do stay for a whole event, a tiny fraction of what they film is seen. You saw that when I put up the videos of President Obama speaking at the DAV Convention. He talked for over half an hour but all you saw were clips strung together. How are you supposed to know what was really said unless they at least give you a full transcript?

They get to edit it down to fit time but when they do, they will take out what they want you to see or hear. Usually that equals a spin based on their own opinion.

NBC has this video on the Medal of Honor and it is 50 seconds long. The commercial running before the video is 30 seconds.

Obama awards Medal of Honor to Army Staff Sergeant Ty Carter from CBS 1.24 minutes long. At least they covered what Ty Carter did to earn the Medal of Honor.

When broadcast news has time to worry about, cutting their video makes sense, I guess, but it depends on what they are putting in for the rest of the news show. When they put it online they should just put up the whole thing so that readers will get the extra content and know what else was said.

Why do some hate heroes?

Yesterday Ty Carter had the Medal of Honor placed around his neck. The White House released the full ceremony on YouTube.

President awards Staff Sergeant Ty M. Carter, U.S. Army, the Medal of Honor for his courageous actions while serving as a cavalry scout with Bravo Troop, 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, during combat operations in Kamdesh District, Nuristan Province, Afghanistan on October 3, 2009. Staff Sergeant Carter is the fifth living recipient to be awarded the Medal of Honor for actions in Iraq or Afghanistan. August 26, 2013.

While the ceremony was well deserved, it was met with disrespect from too many people leaving comments. That bothers me. It bothers most of the people I know. How is it that some have no clue why they should separate the war fighters from the politicians? The war fighters do not start wars. They do not get to decide what nation to go into so even now as there is talk of military action in Syria, the decision is being made by politicians while the plans are being made by military brass.

We get to sit in our living rooms listening to reporters talk about taking action as if there will not be any repercussions. Simply they push for the US to do something never contemplating what will come next. CNN has been pushing for action for months as they show report after report but we only know what they tell us. It is not that it is all too complicated for our brains to deal with. We just never take military action seriously enough to pay more attention.

The first rule of war should always begin with a question. Is it necessary? That should be followed up with "What will it take to obtain the result the politicians want?" This must include the price the war fighters will pay and has to include taking care of the wounded.

That didn't happen after any war including Afghanistan and Iraq. The DOD and the VA were slow to respond to the crisis disabled veterans faced. They suffered. We complained. Then most Americans went back to ignoring them. They suffered more because we stopped caring. Too much for our little brains to deal with when we had reality TV shows to watch and contestants on talent shows to vote for.

Mindless people leave comments attacking the troops and Obama on this video from The White House. One left a comment that captures the type of postings going on.

How is Obama getting away with Treason? The United States government is using the NSA and the CIA to murder an estimated 13 million Americans at this very moment using Directed energy weapons from satellite and Electronic mind control to rape American children to suit the illuminati's needs. Obama is using Monarch programming for "child trafficking" in order to produce child porn and produce presidential prostitutes. Obama is a pedophile and he is raping and murdering children right now.

Think about that for a second. First this person writes that the NSA and CIA are killing Americans then goes on to the say a lot of other really stupid things, which is this person's right under free speech but not free from ridicule. None of us are given the right to say whatever we want and not be subject to someone else's opinion. If this person really believed any of that it would be really stupid to post it on the White House YouTube page.

The comments left on this are one more reminder of how people don't have a clue what they are talking about but seem to want to say it wherever they want.
Kathie Costos DiCesare 14 minutes ago
It is because they see things in simple terms. If they think the war is bad, then they blame the war fighters. If they can look past their own nose then they discover the truth. Politicians start wars but when you ask them why they were willing to die, the honest answer is, they did it for each other. It is easier to ignore what the troops go through if they disagree with the cause. They never stop to think many do not believe in why they have to fight but do it for each other.

Ty Carter earned the Medal of Honor risking his life for someone else. The truth is, they are all risking their lives for the sake of the men and women they are with. Ty wanted to talk about PTSD and military suicides so that he can save lives but the jerks leaving comments had a different agenda. The opportunity to talk about PTSD for too many veterans is lost because jerks feel free to slam the very people making sure they retain their rights to say whatever they want.

Vietnam Veteran Says Obama Ignoring Plight of Deported Heroes

No one knows how many veterans have been deported because ICE does not track that information.
A Vietnam combat veteran who lives under threat of deportation criticized President Barack Obama on Tuesday for ignoring the plight of "banished" veterans while pushing for immigration reform for undocumented aliens in the U.S.

"I just think he will continue to ignore us," said Manuel Valenzuela, a Marine veteran. "We got a president that has no backbone. That's really unfortunate – a commander-in-chief with no backbone."

Obama, flanked by labor, business, and civic leaders, gathered in the East Room of the White House on Tuesday to promote the Dream Act, an immigration bill now before the Senate that would give a path to citizenship to people who were brought into the United States as children.

Another conference on Mental Health will do little good

Personally I am tired of hearing most of what people say when compared to the devastating outcomes. I remember all too well when very little was being done to address suicides tied to military service. With so many years of this program followed by another program to "prevent them" and end the stigma of having PTSD so there are now over 900 programs, these results are disgraceful. As Congress continues to hold hearings on nonsense, they have failed to hold hearings on discovering who is responsible for the increase in these suicides. When you consider the simple fact they survived combat but could not survive being back home, that screams someone has to be held accountable but no one has been. One more conference will do little good.
Background on the National Conference on Mental Health
The White House
June 03, 2013

On Monday, June 3rd, President Obama and Vice President Biden will host a National Conference on Mental Health at the White House as part of the Administration’s effort to launch a national conversation to increase understanding and awareness about mental health. President Obama will deliver opening remarks and Vice President Biden will deliver closing remarks to conference participants.

The conference will bring together people from across the country, including mental health advocates, educators, health care providers, faith leaders, members of Congress, representatives from local governments and individuals who have struggled with mental health problems, to discuss how we can all work together to reduce stigma and help the millions of Americans struggling with mental health problems recognize the importance of reaching out for assistance.

Building on Progress

The conference builds on the President’s plan to reduce gun violence, which calls on Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Education Secretary Arne Duncan to launch a national conversation to increase understanding and awareness of mental health. It also builds on a number of steps to raise awareness and improve care for those experiencing mental health issues, including veterans, a topic Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki will address in the closing session. For example:

Expanding Mental Health Coverage. The Affordable Care Act will expand mental health and substance use disorder benefits and parity protections for 62 million Americans. In addition, thanks to the health care law, beginning in 2014, insurers will no longer be able to deny anyone coverage because of a pre-existing mental health condition. The law already ensures that new health plans cover recommended preventive benefits without cost sharing, including depression screening for adults and adolescents and behavioral assessments for children.

Supporting Young People. The President’s Fiscal Year 2014 Budget includes a new $130 million initiative to help teachers and other adults recognize signs of mental illness in students and refer them to help if needed, support innovative state-based programs to improve mental health outcomes for young people ages 16-to-25, and help train 5,000 additional mental health professionals with a focus on serving students and young adults.&

Improving Access to Services for Veterans. In response to the President’s Executive Order in August of 2012, the Department of Veterans Affairs has achieved their goal of increasing capacity by hiring 1,600 new mental health providers, over 300 peer-to-peer veteran specialists, establishing 24 pilot projects in nine states where VA is partnering with community mental health providers to help Veterans access mental health services in a timely way and enhancing the capacity of its Crisis Line by 50 percent.

At the conference, the President will announce that the Department of Veterans Affairs is directing 151 of its health care centers nationwide to conduct Mental Health Summits with community partners, including local government officials, community-based organizations, and Veteran Service Organizations starting July 1 through September 15. The Summits will identify and link community-based resources to support the mental health needs of Veterans and their families, as well as help increase awareness of available VA programs and services. read more here

A Texas Army veteran is being questioned in connection with poison letters sent to President Obama and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg after his wife found a container in their refrigerator filled with what appeared to be ricin.

The man, who neighbors identified to KSLA as father-of-five Nathaniel Richardson, is a civilian employee of the Department of Defense who works at the Red River Army Depot. Sources said he is being treated as a person of interest.

His wife, actress Shannon Glass, told officers that as well as the container in the fridge, she also found internet searches related to ricin production, Obama and Bloomberg on their computer.

The development comes two days after it emerged that Bloomberg and his anti-gun group were sent two ricin-laced letters. On Thursday, it was revealed that another, identical letter was sent to Obama.

Umbrella-gate Marine's family thinks the whole thing is a hoot

Marine holding umbrella for Obama is from Apopka

It's true that Marines are not supposed to carry umbrellas in certain uniforms. But Nathan Previti is assigned to a special unit in the White House that handles all kinds of ceremonial duties.
Every now and then a photo of something relatively mundane takes on a life of its own.

Such is the case for the picture of a frowning President Obama looking up at a rainy sky (how's that for a metaphor about recent White House missteps?) while a young Marine stands by with an umbrella.

The kerfluffle has even taken on its own name. Or several. "Umbrella Marine." "Umbrella Scandal." Yes, even "Umbrella-gate."

Well, the Marine has a name too. He's Cpl. Nathan Previti from Apopka.

And while Sarah Palin and Sean Hannity are using the photo of Previti's white-gloved hand dutifully shielding Obama from rain as more "proof" that the president is aloof (can't hold his own umbrella) and disrespectful of the military (doesn't he know Marines aren't supposed to hold umbrellas?), the Previti family thinks the whole thing is a hoot.

Military sexual assaults nothing new and that is the saddest part of all

If they actually did something back in 2006 they wouldn't be facing it even worse now.
White House, Congress bear down on military sexual assault

WASHINGTON — As lawmakers on Thursday railed against the epidemic of sexual assault in the military, President Barack Obama summoned top Pentagon leaders to an emergency White House meeting to deal with the latest scandals and the perceived culture of indifference among service leaders.

The meeting, scheduled for late Thursday, was to include Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and a number of other senior enlisted advisers. Last week, White House officials held a similar meeting on the topic, that time with members of Congress furious over several high-profile assault cases in the ranks.

Earlier this month, the head of the Air Force’s sexual assault prevention office was charged with sexual battery for groping a woman in an Arlington, Va., parking lot. This week, an enlisted soldier leading similar programs at Fort Hood was accused of running a prostitution ring and assaulting women.

WASHINGTON, April 29, 2013

First Lady Michelle Obama today unveiled the new Information Technology Training and Certification Partnership to put thousands of service members to work with industry-recognized IT certifications in hand before they leave the military.

Obama, who made the announcement at the White House Forum on Military Credentialing and Licensing at the White House, said a public-private partnership will offer the certification program.

“This new partnership will provide up to 161,000 service members with the chance to gain the certifications they need for 12 different high-demand, high-paying technology careers … from IT security analysts to computer programmers to quality assurance engineers,” she noted.

The program is expected to garner more than 1.8 million jobs by 2020, with salaries of more than $81,000, a White House fact sheet indicated.

“More than 1 million service members will be hanging up their uniforms and transitioning to civilian life … on top of the hundreds of thousands of veterans and military spouses already out there looking for work,” the first lady said.

Jake Wood and Team Rubicon visit to White House

The Changing Face of Veteran Reintegration

President Barack Obama greets members of the Team Rubicon disaster relief organization in the Oval Office, Feb. 8, 2013. Participants include: Danielle Harrington, volunteer; James "JC" McGreehan, Mission Leader; William McNulty, Vice President and co-founder; Daniel Nidess, Director of Personnel; Matt Pelak, Director of Strategic Partnerships; Andrew Stevens, Director of Programs; Maria Lourdes Tiglao, Regional Director of Recruitment; and Jacob Wood, President and co-founder. Post World War II, military veterans returned home to a community of veterans and a grateful nation that had shared in the sacrifice of war. These veterans used the brick and mortar posts of the American Legion and the VFW to maintain that esprit-de-corps. They mentored youth, advocated on veterans issues, shared war stories, and confided in each other over beers.

For generations, when veterans took off their uniform, their desire to serve did not end. That’s just as true today. Some very creative post 9/ll veterans’ charities have adapted to this desire and have created models for continued service and engagement. The Mission Continues provides fellowships for returning veterans to continue their service in the public sector. Ride 2 Recovery and Team RWB use the therapeutic effect of physical training to repair the physical and mental wounds of war. Our organization, Team Rubicon, uses continued service through disaster response as a means to maintain purpose, community, and a sense-of-self. Our work is inspired by our late friend Clay Hunt, who took his own life after leaving the service.

It’s a national emergency that everyday 22 military veterans commit suicide. Also concerning is the increasing magnitude and frequency of natural disasters. Over the last five years, there have been 350 federally declared disasters in the United States. A Civic Enterprises report found that 92 percent of veterans want to continue their service when they return home. The top two responses were helping their fellow veterans and disaster response. Team Rubicon provided that opportunity to over 350 veterans during our response to Hurricane Sandy.

On Friday, February 8th, we had the honor and privilege to meet President Obama and some of his advisors in the Oval Office. We discussed our response to Hurricane Sandy, our model of continued service, and how we think we can stem the tide of veteran suicide.

During the conversation, the President said he didn’t just want to just talk; he wanted to support Team Rubicon. He wanted to find ways to work together to enhance coordination following natural disasters. We thank the President for validating our approach to veteran reintegration and disaster response. We look forward to working together to improve these two critical issues.

Langley air show canceled over sequestration threat

Langley air show canceled over sequestration threat

Citing budget uncertainties and the threat of sequestration, Joint Base Langley announced Friday it is canceling the Langley air show, which was set for May 3-5. A spokeswoman for Oceana Naval Air Station said it may cancel its show as well.

"The Air Force has to consider the fiscal challenges affecting the Department of Defense and the nation," Col. Korvin Auch, 633rd Air Base Wing commander, said in a statement announcing the cancellation.

"We're taking prudent steps now in order to be good stewards of taxpayer resources while focusing on maintaining readiness."

At Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach, spokeswoman Kelley Stirling said that canceling its annual show

"is definitely being considered, but no decision has been made."

If sequestration happens, Stirling said, the Navy is expected to cancel shows by the Blue Angels flight demonstration team for the remainder of the year. Since the Blue Angels are a big part of Oceana's show, she said, "that would mean our show gets canceled regardless."

MOH Romesha's son, future President

The look on the little boy's face is priceless! Not so much impressed with Dad, he has his attention set on the podium. Unfortunately this says Clint is a Marine even though he served from Army's Fort Carson.
