Mother tries to change military protocol after son's death at Fort Hood

The Arlington, Indiana, woman remembers the sleepless nights her and her fiancé spent searching for her son, Dakota Stump, who was a soldier on an Army base in Fort Hood when he disappeared. When his body was found in a wooded area, around 100 yards from the road at the base, the days and nights dragged on.
“I’ve tried so many things to keep myself busy and not constantly be reminded of what happened,” Wise said. “It helps, but I don’t think a mother ever gets over losing a child.
“I feel like every day that goes by, it almost gets worse."
Stump's body was discovered next to his flipped-over vehicle by soldiers conducting land-navigation training. He was only 32 pounds when he was found after a month, Wise said. Investigators believe the vehicle left the road, entered the wooded area and rolled over multiple times. The terrain hid the vehicle from the road.

Maj. Gen. Francisco Espaillat Died But Left a Legacy
There are some Generals that make you cringe when they walk into a room. Then there are Generals like Maj. Gen. Francisco Espaillat that make you want to walk over to them and give them a big hug.
This is the video from his inspiring speech.
Last year at Orlando Rocks Maj. Gen. Francisco Espaillat was the guest speaker. He was a lot more than that when he told the crowd about his history as well as explaining how important military families are.
He didn't stop smiling the whole day.
He even let us lock him up!

An Army Reserve major general died Friday at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, officials announced Saturday.
Maj. Gen. Francisco Espaillat collapsed Friday during individual physical training and was rushed by ambulance to Womack Army Medical Center, where medical staff pronounced him dead, according to a news release.
The 56-year-old, who was from New York City, was assigned to General Officer Support, Office of the Chief of Army Reserve, at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
He received his second star only a couple of weeks ago, on March 27. He had been selected to serve as the chief of staff for U.S. Army Reserve Command.
"Just last month I had the privilege of promoting him in a low-key ceremony at my office in Washington, D.C.," said Lt. Gen. Charles Luckey, the Army Reserve chief and commanding general of U.S. Army Reserve Command, in a statement. "This was just his style, as a soldier he was humble, never seeking recognition. He was a splendid soldier who embodied leadership, energy and a relentless spirit of execution in everything he did."

RALEIGH, N.C. (KTRK) -- They are the sniffles heard around the world.
When Lisa Williams' plane arrived at Raleigh-Durham Airport, passengers were asked to wait to let someone off the plane first.
When she looked out the window, there were several soldiers unloading a flag-draped coffin from the cargo hold. For minutes, the plane remained silent, aside from the sniffles coming from the passengers.
A woman walked over and placed her hand on the casket to say her final goodbyes, and others -- presumably family members -- joined her.
Then, seven Green Beret soldiers dressed in full uniform carried the casket off the plane and loaded it into a black hearse, paying their respects as they marched away.
Eventually, a pilot came on the intercom to thank the passengers for waiting.

Twentynine Palms Marin Killed in Training, Another Wounded
The next time you hear anyone say that most of the suicides occur without being deployed, remember this,
Training itself is dangerous, as you have just read, and it should be a factor in any report on the rise in suicides among servicemembers.
Then add in the fact that every member of the military, regardless of branch, has received training in what they have been told will prevent PTSD and stop suicides.
Now add in the simple question we have never heard and explanation for. If that training was not good enough to prevent suicides in non-deployed, then how the hell did they think it would work for those deployed into combat multiple times?

The most recent death involved Sgt. Alex Taylor, 23, of Texas City, Texas, who was found Wednesday unresponsive at his job at Fort Hood.
The Army’s Criminal Investigations Command is probing Taylor’s death, Stars and Stripes reported Friday.
“At this point in the investigative process we do not suspect foul play, but have not completely ruled it out while we conduct a complete and thorough death investigation,” Criminal Investigations spokesman Christopher Grey told the paper.
Fort Hood said Taylor’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Aviation Badge and Air Assault Badge, among others. He was part of the 15th Military Intelligence Battalition and enlisted as an aviation operations.
Taylor is at least the 11th Fort Hood soldier to have died in the U.S. since Oct. 12.
Yet at the bottom of the article it has,
Three soldiers from Fort Hood died November 12 in a suicide bomb attack at Bagram air base in Afghanistan: Staff Sgt. John Perry, 30; Private First Class Tyler Iubelt, 20; and Sgt. 1st Class Allan Brown, 46. Brown died of injuries suffered in the attack at Walter Reade National Medical Center in Bethesda Dec. 6, the Houston Chronicle reported Friday. In other words, there is nothing to investigate on those deaths. So is this attention getting headline totally misleading? Weren't the facts as they really are worthy of the attention?
The Army said Sgt. Douglas Riney, who was assigned to Fort Hood, died in Afghanistan Oct. 20 in a firefight with the enemy.
