NFL Should Stop Playing Games With National Anthem Combat PTSD Wounded Times Kathie Costos September 29, 2017 Aren't these guys supposed to be rough and tough? So why are they whining before they play their games because POTUS sent out a nasty tweet? (As if that is anything new) Then show disrespect for the National Anthem in "protest" over something that has nothing to do with the job they get paid to do? They do not think of their fans paying a lot of money to watch them play instead of just watching on TV. They want to show up and give their favorite teams support. Too bad too many players are not willing to reciprocate on the support side. What gives them the right to assume they can do whatever they want in front of the fans who just paid to be there?
The NFL does not even respect their own rules! Stop the military flyovers, the claims of "respect" for the Armed Forces and they should stop playing the National Anthem. That way, we won't have to see how little they respect anything, or anyone, other than themselves!
If one more person claims this has nothing to do with disrespecting the flag or troops, they need to learn the history of the Anthem itself.
“The NFL doesn’t follow their own rules. The specific rule pertaining to the national anthem is found on pages A62-63 of the NFL League Rulebook. It states:
“The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem.
“During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition...
“...It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.”
Do they understand that they are paid to play a game but others are paid so much less to risk their lives defending their rights to prove they cannot respect any of it? My Dad fought in the Korean War and my Uncles fought during WWII. My husband fought in Vietnam and so did his Nephew. My Father-in-law and his brothers fought in WWII and one of them was killed in Saipan. Both of us are only second generation Americans! Our families came here because of what this country stood for and now these jocks cannot even stand for what families like ours fought for? If the New England Patriots cannot stand for the anthem, then they should change their logo as well as their name because they do not deserve to have either of them associated with their stunts!
They are not acting like patriots but these football players are!

As almost one-third of the entire NFL planned on protesting during the national anthem in response to President Donald Trump calling out those who “disrespect the flag,” one green beret veteran, who became an NFL player after six years of service for the U.S. Army in both Iraq and Afghanistan, isn't having any of it.
And he stood up!
So did he!
(Sickening update: "This national anthem ordeal has sort of been out of control, and there's a lot of blame on myself," Villanueva, Pittsburgh's starting left tackle, said Monday.
"I made coach (Mike) Tomlin look bad, and that is my fault and my fault only. I made my teammates look bad, and that is my fault.")
(And back to when I thought he deserved praise for standing up to pressure to bow down!)
"I don't know if the most effective way is to sit down during the national anthem with a country that's providing you freedom, providing you $16 million a year ... when there are black minorities that are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan for less than $20,000 a year."
And so did some of them!
This isn't about what POTUS had to say to most of us. This is about what that Anthem means to us!

"They all have a meaning," Floyd said.
Floyd says hundreds of people have asked to take pictures over the years, but few ask the story behind the head-to-toe decorations. He says it's a symbol for the sacrifices all soldiers have made, but especially the men and women who served in Vietnam.
"Some mark the men who didn't come home," Floyd said.
Floyd served two tours in Vietnam in the Marines. He says he suffered from agent orange while there, and now has disabilities from his service. read more here

One Florida man has taken it upon himself to help restore a Tampa graveyard and its veterans' headstones.
Though he has never served in the military, Andrew Lumish, 46, spends his little free time scrubbing and cleaning soldiers' gravestones — some dating back to the Civil War — in the L'Unione Italiana Cemetery.
Known as "The Good Cemeterian," Lumish found the headstones while pursuing his passion for photography. He thought they were beautiful but was bothered by the amount of dirt, mold and mildew that had overtaken them. Some of the men buried there did not have families to take care of their gravesites, so he stepped in to provide a little elbow grease and honor the fallen veterans. read more here

Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings.
Armed Forces Day primarily honors those persons who are currently serving our country.
Veterans Day primarily honors those who have served in the past.
Memorial Day primarily honors those who died while in service to our country, those who have given their lives for the nation’s freedom and the freedom of others.
While it is always appropriate to thank someone in our military services, past and present, Memorial Day is a day for those no longer with us. It was meant to be a more solemn day, rather than celebratory with parties and sales….
Fly your American flags this weekend and for Memorial Day/weekend. If they are torn, tattered or fade you may take them to any veteran service organization post for proper retirement. See the events for Flag Day in June.

Battle of Midway Commemoration - This year marks the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Midway. On June 4th 1942, a vastly outnumbered and outgunned U.S. Fleet defeated the finest of the Imperial Japanese Navy in the waters off a small Pacific Atoll named Midway. D-Day Commemoration - On June 6, 1944, more than 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline, to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower called the operation a crusade in which, “we will accept nothing less than full victory.” More than 5,000 Ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by day’s end, the Allies gained a foot-hold in Continental Europe. The cost in lives on D-Day was high. More than 9,000 Allied Soldiers were killed or wounded, but their sacrifice allowed more than 100,000 Soldiers to begin the slow, hard slog across Europe, to defeat Adolf Hitler’s troops. Thank a WW2 European theater veteran, especially one involved in D-Day.

Central Florida Veterans – There are approximately 65,000 military veterans just in Orange County. And only 17,000 are receiving ANY kind of benefits that they are entitled to receive. Enroll in the VA Healthcare system, even if you think you are not eligible. Laws change, rules get updated and you may have some service related situations that appear years after you left service. If you are already enrolled, it will decrease possible delays. Healthcare is not the only benefit of your service to our country. See your County Veterans Service Office. Every Florida county has a VSO, some have multiple offices – they are FREE and very knowledgeable about benefits claims and possible appeals. See floridavets .org for locations.
(Want to know a secret? Many of the attorneys who advertise to assist with veteran benefit claims and appeals actually consult with these same VSO’s! And then charge the client for it!)
Hepatitis C – It is imperative that veterans get tested! If positive, get treated. The VA will test you, and treat you – for free. Consult your primary care team if you are already enrolled in the VA Healthcare system. If you are not currently enlisted in it, do it. One in 10 Vietnam veterans, and one in 30 baby-boomers, will test positive for this liver problem - a possible “time-bomb” that may lead to liver cancer. Blood Banks already test for this – if Hep C negative, your blood will help save a life.

Coast Guard Cutter Eagle visit to Port Canaveral: May 31- June 3. This is a tall ship – one with real masts and sails. The Coast Guard Cutter EAGLE, provides USCG Academy cadets and officer candidates with their first taste of sea and salt air. Built in Germany in 1936 and recommissioned by the United States at the close of World War II, the EAGLE is the largest tall ship flying the Stars and Stripes. This will be a unique opportunity.

Research Project - Active military, reservists, guardsmen and veterans needed – If you or someone you know has experience overseas, a research project is ongoing at the UCF RESTORES lab at the University of Central Florida. The project determines if smells influence their experience in virtual environments similar to those we use in the treatment of combat-related PTSD. Burial Schedules - VA is now providing online daily burial schedules for its national cemeteries, per VAntage Point, Official Blog of the Department of Veterans Affairs, March 24, 2017. The online schedule for all VA national cemeteries that will allow families, friends and community members to find time and location information for those being interred. Thank you, Ed Burford, Seminole Co. VSO. (Locally: This effects the grounds at Bushnell and Cape Canaveral – Some people and groups don’t want ANY veteran to be buried or interred alone and forgotten. This will allow a tribute to the deceased veteran.)
Drivers’ Licenses, TSA, federal facilities and military bases – If you are a snowbird or have snowbird family, residents of eight states will no longer be able to use their state-issued ID for domestic air travel [or to enter a federal facility or military base]. Beginning January 22, 2018, residents of Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Pennsylvania, South Carolina or Washington, will no longer be valid to pass TSA-checkpoints with their state IDs [driver’s license]. This means they'll have to bring a passport, military ID or permanent resident card next time they go to the airport, even if they're just traveling within the United States. (Jan. 2017 resources, including Military.com) Why? These states don't meet the federal government's minimum security standards, which requires verifying every ID applicant's identity, putting anti-counterfeit technology into the production of the card and conducting background checks on the people issuing the driver's licenses.
Puerto Rican birth certificates - All certified copies of birth certificates issued prior to July 1, 2010, have become invalid. The government of Puerto Rico has invalidated every birth certificate issued on the island before July 1, 2010, in an attempt to curb rampant fraud and identity theft that officials say has ruined lives, strained social service programs and compromised national security.
