Fort Stewart Soldier stabbed by another for defending woman

Stewart soldier stabbed by fellow soldier after defending woman from attack
Posted: August 21, 2011

By Constance Cooper
A Fort Stewart soldier is in stable condition at Memorial University Medical Center after being stabbed multiple times by another soldier Sunday morning, according to Long County sheriff's office Lt. Tom Sollosi, who is investigating the case.

The stabbing happened when the victim tried to stop another soldier from assaulting a woman, Sollosi said.

The sheriff’s office wasn’t releasing the name of the victim or his alleged attacker Sunday night.

The victim’s family still is being notified, Sollosi said. And his alleged attacker, who is being held on suicide watch at the Liberty County jail, hasn’t been formally charged with a crime yet.

Sollosi said that’s why they haven’t released his name.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A soldier was attacked, stabbed in the neck after he tried to break up a fight on a plane. And now, we're learning new details about what happened.

Investigators say the plane was on the tarmac at Bush Airport last month, ready to fly to Savannah, Georgia, when the fight started.

The soldier, Nicholas Shipley, 20, is back on post in Fort Stewart, Georgia. The guy accused of threatening him is free after posting bail.

Robert Paterson, 38, works as a contractor in Afghanistan. During a vacation from the war zone, he was arrested at Bush Intercontinental Airport for threatening Shipley and allegedly stabbing him with a type of knife on an airplane.

The men were on an Express Jet flight to Savannah. Police reports indicate the whole thing started with a fight on board. When a stewardess tried to calm the guys down, police say Paterson stabbed Shipley.

Serviceman was killed at party; crashers charged

In Lennice Hudson's home, a refuge for foster children, Darius Ray found stability.

He became a track star at his Gaithersburg high school, graduated, flirted with college and ultimately joined the Marines. Between his foster brothers and sisters and Hudson's two biological children, he had a family, one he would join every week for dinner.

On Sunday, the family was planning to celebrate his 20th birthday.

"I love you and I want a red velvet cake," he texted Hudson in anticipation.

But Ray would not make it to his own celebration. He was fatally stabbed in Northeast Baltimore the day before at a party thrown by friends.

Three American service members or former service members have been slain in Baltimore since Dec. 20, more than the number of U.S. troops who have died in combat in Iraq during the same period.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Police say a female soldier was killed as she and her husband walked near their home. It marks the third such case this year in the city next to Fort Bragg.

The Fayetteville Observer reported Friday that 29-year-old Sgt. Christina E. Smith was stabbed to death while walking with her husband, Sgt. Richard D. Smith.

Richard Smith said an attacker stabbed his wife in the neck about 9 p.m. Tuesday and fled as the soldier went after her attacker.

Neighbors said they heard a woman screaming and saw Christina Smith lying in a pool of blood. Witnesses and the husband were questioned Wednesday, but police said they have released few details. Fort Bragg officials identified the victim Thursday.

Police allege murder-for-hire in sgt. stabbing2 soldiers charged in Bragg death
By Estes Thompson - The Associated PressPosted : Friday Oct 3, 2008 12:05:54 EDT

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The husband of a female soldier found stabbed to death near her home was arrested Friday and charged with murder along with a second man authorities say was hired to kill the woman.
The death of 29-year-old Sgt. Christina E. Smith was the third off-post killing of a Fort Bragg servicewoman in four months, stunning a tight military community that was still seeking to come to grips with the earlier deaths.
“For me, I was thinking, ‘No, gosh, not another one,’” said Fayetteville police spokeswoman Theresa Chance.
Sgt. Richard Smith, 26, was charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder, Chance said. Pfc. Mathew Kvapil, 18, faces the same charges, and Chance said he was hired by Smith to kill the wife as the couple walked together Tuesday evening.
Smith, who was treated for minor injuries, initially reported that an attacker stabbed his wife in the neck and fled as the soldier ran after him. Neighbors said they heard a woman screaming and saw Christina Smith in a pool of blood.

Police: Mom, 2 teen girls kill man in $15 robbery
Associated Press
Published: Saturday September 6, 2008

PASADENA, Texas — Two teenage girls are accused of stabbing a 75-year-old man to death in a robbery that netted them just $15, and police say the mother of one of the teens helped put them up to it.

Dannette R. Gillespie, 38, gave knives to her 15-year-old daughter and Vanessa Anne Ocampo, 19, then waited in their car while the teens robbed and killed Eugene Palma, according to a probable cause warrant.

All three were charged with capital murder Friday and were being held without bail. Police did not immediately respond to a call Saturday asking if the suspects had attorneys to speak for them.

Palma, a bar owner, was found stabbed several times in the driveway of his home in this Houston suburb Wednesday. He did not know the women, Pasadena police said.
