Veteran shoots self in Birmingham VA clinic parking deck

A veteran shot himself this morning in the parking deck of a Veteran's Administration building in Birmingham.
The injury wasn't life-threatening, and officials say they don't know whether the shooting was accidental or intentional.
The incident happened after 9:30 a.m. at the Birmingham VA Clinic in the 700 block of 24th Street. VA spokesman Jeff Hester said the shooting happened in the parking deck.

The man involved earlier this month in a 15-hour police standoff near Harlem High School, was booked into the Columbia County Detention Center Wednesday night.
Randall Edward Seaton, 27, a military veteran said to suffer post traumatic stress disorder, had been under medical evaluation for more than a week at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon. He has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault, criminal damage to property in the second degree and reckless conduct.
Seaton surrendered to deputies after he held officers at bay for more than 15 hours during the standoff that began March 6 and lasted until the early morning hours of March 7.

Hawk Memorial weekend in Navarre was a huge success. Family representatives from all 11 military men lost in the crash over Navarre Sound one year ago were in town to take part in the memorial. Even though the memorial statue was not complete, it was finished enough to give a good representation of how it would look at the final unveiling on Memorial Day this year.

Hawk Memorial weekend in Navarre was a huge success. Family representatives from all 11 military men lost in the crash over Navarre Sound one year ago were in town to take part in the memorial. Even though the memorial statue was not complete, it was finished enough to give a good representation of how it would look at the final unveiling on Memorial Day this year.
The stars were moved by the statue’s artist and presented to family members by members of the Leadership Santa Rosa Class #29. Then each family received a star mounted in a shadow box to honor their family member.Family representatives arrived in Navarre March 9 and 10 to attend the first memorial event on Navarre Beach at the marine park the evening of Thursday, March 10 when a group of Marines began a Ruckers March across the Navarre Beach bridge at 8:21 p.m. – the exact time of the crash one year before. Then the following morning, March 11, the marchers joined the community and families of the lost in Navarre Park on Hwy. 98 for the formal Memorial Ceremony.

Forty-four-year-old Thomas Clardy died Wednesday.
Police say Clardy had stopped a car for a traffic violation when his cruiser was hit by another vehicle around noon in Charlton.

Clardy joined the state police in 2005. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He leaves behind a wife and six children.

Staff at a U.S. Marine Corps base in Des Moines said they could hear bullets "whizzing by" from what believed to be an active shooter Thursday night.
Des Moines police rushed to the base, 208 Dickman Road, to catch an active shooter who was reportedly heard firing rounds just before 8 p.m. Witnesses called 911 to report that they saw three to four men running behind a nearby business west of the base.
