BRENTWOOD, Calif.—Two separate incidents over the weekend in the East Bay involving children in swimming pools ended with distinctly different results.

A Marine Corps sergeant is being credited with saving the life of an eight-year-old girl when he pulled her from the bottom of an apartment complex swimming pool in Brentwood Sunday.

Authorities say after Miguel Hinojosa pulled the girl out of the pool from the complex in Brentwood yesterday he began CPR.

When paramedics arrived, the girl was breathing on her own.

An East Contra Costa County fire official says he's going to recommend that Himojosa be officially recognized for his actions.

In Livermore, an incident involving a young boy ended with tragic results.

Alameda County officials say a nine-year-old boy drowned in his family pool Friday evening.
