Passengers stop hammer attack on city bus

TORONTO, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- A Toronto Transit Commission bus driver escaped serious injury Monday when passengers subdued a woman who attacked her with a hammer, police said.
The incident happened midday in the northwestern part of the city, CITY-TV reported.
Passengers on the bus told police a young woman "sidled up" to the female bus driver then suddenly pulled a hammer from a bag and began flailing at the driver.
Several passengers jumped on the attacker and pinned her until three police cars surrounded the vehicle.
