Students who showed up Friday for athletic practice at Glenbrook North High School were offered grief counseling after being told that a senior classmate had collapsed on a soccer field and died the night before.

Jennifer Snyder, 17, of Northbrook was about 30 minutes into practice for a non-school team called Glenbrook United when she collapsed about 7:45 p.m. in Community Park West field in Glenview, police said.

Paramedics treated her at the scene for cardiac arrest and took her to Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview, where she was pronounced dead about 9 p.m., Glenview police said.

An autopsy performed Friday at the Cook County medical examiner's office was inconclusive, with the cause of death listed as "pending further study."

Jennifer's father, Robert, said in a statement that her death was "an unimaginable loss for our whole family and everyone Jenny touched."
