"Since World War I, 90,000 are unaccounted for," said Ryan. He said his organization is well known for its three-day sale of poppy flowers on Oct. 30, 31 and Nov. 1 outside of area retail stores to provide a relief fund for local military veterans, and their widows and orphans.

Groups to hold POW/MIA activities

A symbolic prisoner cage, patriotic murals, special bracelets and a 12-hour student relay are among several local activities scheduled to mark National POW/MIA Recognition Day on Friday.

In Washington, D.C., on Friday morning, President Bush will issue a proclamation reminding the nation of those Americans who have served as prisoners of war or those who never returned home and remain missing in action.

From 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday in New Smyrna Beach, outside Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4250, 2350 Sunset Drive, an art exhibit will center around a simulated prisoner cage -- a "tiger cage" like those used in Vietnam, said Tom Ryan.
