Livonia veteran on Vietnam: ‘Everybody looked out for everybody else'

Jim Pardo isn't one to toot his own horn about his military service.

The Livonia resident and retired sergeant of the Livonia Police Department spends his time these days as the commander of the American Legion Post 32 on Newburgh Road, looking to help others.

On Friday, which is Veterans Day, some Legion volunteers will work in a soup kitchen, serving the homeless, while others will visit senior centers with an honor guard to touch base with other veterans.

But Pardo, 65, recently has reconnected with old friends he served with in Vietnam. He lost touch with some of them for 40 years. Today, he cherishes the times he spends with them now.
