Army officials on Friday released the name of a Fort Bliss soldier who died Saturday in Corsicana, Texas, after sustaining neck injuries from diving into a pond.

Spc. Mason T. Moore III, 27, of Frost, just before midnight dove into a shallow area of a pond near his mother's house in Corsicana, and did not resurface, said Maj. Jennifer R. Butler with the 11th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade Public Affairs Office.

Moore's brother pulled him out of the water about 10 minutes later and attempted to administer CPR before paramedics arrived, Butler said.

Emergency responders took Moore to Navarro Regional Hospital in Corsicana where he was pronounced dead, Butler said. Moore is survived by his wife and son.

A unit memorial service will take place on Fort Bliss at an undetermined date.

"Charlie Company, 86th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, suffered a tremendous loss," Capt. Lorenzo J. Aponte, Charlie Company commander at Fort Bliss, said in a statement. "Spc. Moore was remarkable in so many ways. He lived his life to the fullest and touched so many people during his time with us. We all have memories that defined Spc. Moore; memories that we will always hold dear. We continue to keep him and his family in our thoughts and prayers."
