7 British marines arrested in Afghanistan murder probe

The Coalition forces have rules to live by and do a great job living by those rules most of the time. The other side have no rules other than to kill as many as possible by any means. The "normal" rules of war ended after the Gulf War when it was about nation at war with nations.

Afghanistan was not about being at war with the nation.

It turned into well trained Coalition forces fighting well armed civilians, trained by terrorists, using peaceful citizens to get in-between. They just didn't care how many of their own countrymen had to die, what kind of life they would have, as long as they killed troops. Their weapon of choice was IEDs and if innocent civilians were blown up, they just didn't care.

Then when the troops were training Afghans to take over their own security, most wanted to be able to do it but some wanted to use that training, that trust, to keep killing as many as possible.

They did the same thing in Iraq when most Iraqis wanted to take over their own future and their own defense but some wanted to, and still want to, destroy it along with their own people.

It is very hard to remember that these men and women are still human and faced with not knowing who the enemy is. People snap. Most do not or we'd see many more reports like this. They will be held accountable but the other side never faces having to live up to any other rule than to kill.
