British double amputee Afghanistan veteran makes history in Spartan Race

A soldier who lost both his legs while on duty in Afghanistan has become the first British double amputee to finish a gruelling Spartan Race obstacle course.

The event – which has outposts around the world – aims to ‘test your resilience, strength, stamina and quick decision-making skills’ in an endurance race that includes mud crawls, ice-pit plunges and log-fire leaps to name a few.

Lance Bombardier James Simpson, 27, successfully completed the four-mile course and overcame 25 obstacles in just over four hours.
