Mom Of Murdered Baby Speaks Out

Mom Of Murdered Baby Speaks Out
WITN News
May 31, 2013

The mother of a 10 month baby that died after police say his father choked him to death is now speaking out for the first time to WITN.

Amber Hewitt is the mother of Aidyn Burton of Jacksonville. She says the baby's father, a Camp Lejeune Marine, killed himself days after the child's murder.

Now Hewitt says she wants answers into why police didn't arrest the father before it was too late. "For 23 years I searched for my purpose in this world, so when I held that little boy in my arms I knew what my purpose was, and now I'm trying to find it again," Hewitt told us from her new home in Florida.

Back in February she lived in Jacksonville with her son. The child's father, Corporal Rodney Burton who everyone called "Will" didn't take care of his son until he was 9 months old, according to Hewitt.

One day the mother's sister and brother-in-law were babysiting while she was at work. Burton came over.

"I though that he actually was trying to be involved with his son," said Hewitt.

But according to the autopsy, a baby wipe was stuffed in the baby's mouth, suffocating him. After being questioned by police, Burton left Jacksonville and was found at a home in Craven County with a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Emails, death and dumb

Emails, death and dumb
by Chaplain Kathie
Wounded Times Blog
September 5, 2012

This morning I received yet another email from someone so focused on hating Democrats and the President, that I asked to be removed from his email list. I'm fed up with people I used to respect sending out lies filled with nonsense especially when they are in a position of being respected. This person is a Chaplain! Does he automatically assume everyone he knows agrees with the hatred he is supporting? Does he have a clue anymore what a Chaplain is supposed to be? I was part of his group a very long time ago and now I am more convinced than ever leaving it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Not that my own hands are clean because I used to be political as well. I didn't send out emails but I posted them on my old blog. I fell into the same trap I always complain about. I thought it was my duty to share the truth without ever once considering that some people would be hurt by what I posted. That stopped when a Marine sent me an email and asked me to stop doing it. I fired back a testy response defending my right to say what I wanted. Yep, got on that high horse and went as fast as I could. He replied with a very simple question. "Are you doing this for us or yourself?" After I stopped crying I realized he opened my eyes to how wrong I was.

I made him a promise that I would start this blog and only do political posts when it was about what politicians were doing for them or to them.

For the last 5 years, I kept that promise all while being constantly repulsed by emails flying in from both sides.

I read emails from military families and veterans all the time because their lives are falling apart and they are not getting the help they need. Then I read news reports from all over the country that make me so sad it is hard to type.

I posted this first thing. Fort Worth Mom let her toddler die because she was depressed about her husband's deployment. She tried to commit suicide and asked for help but didn't get it. Her other two children were also neglected. Then I read this.

Florida woman arrested for leaving infant son in dumpster: police
Alexandria Sladon-Marler was a troubled young woman with a history of frequent run-in with the law.
BY CHRISTINE ROBERTS
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2012

A Florida mother sits behind bars accused of infanticide after she was arrested and jailed Monday.

Alexandria Sladon-Marler was a familiar figure to many in the small Lake Ridge neighborhood of Fort Lauderdale, population 3,000. Some days she could be seen sitting on curb and just hanging out.

"She used to like to knock on windows," Mary Rhodes, former head of the neighborhood's Community for a Better Lake Ridge, told the Daily News. "She'd hang out at local Wendy's…knock on men's car windows and ask for sex."

Sladon-Marler was struggling with a troubled life. Those who knew her suggest that mental illness — not just bad behavior — played a part in the tragedy of this mother, and child.

If she had been spotted and helped during one of the numerous times she had been in contact with the law, the system might have saved not only her, but also the tiny newborn found wrapped in a towel, stuffed into a pillowcase and hidden among the garbage and the trash of a dumpster behind the hotel Sladon-Marler was staying at, says Rhodes.

Two Moms, one military and one civilian clearly dealing with mental illness but no one took care of them. No one made sure they got the help they needed or made sure their children were safe yet what comes in emails? Crap about moral values from people so concerned with the life of the unborn they never have time to think about the living. There are two babies dead just from last weekend alone.

Will I read emails from these political zealots about either of these stories? No. They are never interested in doing anything to inform or actually do something about helping anyone.

The picked sides and the truth no longer matters to them. Humans in need never come into their minds or penetrate their stone cold hearts but they hide behind the title they believe they earned as a "Christian" using His name but never following in His footsteps. Spreading lies is not a value He would approve. Turning away from the poor, the sick, the needy is not something He would approve because He didn't approve of it when He walked this earth.

Matthew 25
The Sheep and the Goats
31 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory.

32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.

33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.

35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,

36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

37 "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?

38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?

39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

40 "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

41 "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,

43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'

44 "They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'

45 "He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'

46 "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life." Bible Gateway

Fort Worth Mom 'let her toddler die because she was too depressed about her husband's deployment'

This is a very sad story just when you read about the children but when you read what else was going on, how this Mom tried to commit suicide and asked for help, there are a lot of people tied into all of this.

Felonies: The young mother is charged with three felony counts of injury to a child in connection with her 22-month-old daughter's death and the severe neglect of her two other daughters

She also said she tried committing suicide three weeks ago but a friend stopped her.
'I'm so just stressed out and depressed, and I just need help taking care of them, and I don't have any help,' she told the station.

A Texas woman who claims her military husband's deployment overseas left her too stressed to care for their three young children, one of whom died, remained jailed Friday in connection with their alleged neglect.

Tiffany Nicole Klapheke is charged with three felony counts of injury to a child in connection with her 22-month-old daughter's death and the severe neglect of her two other daughters, ages six months and three years, Abilene police said.

Her toddler suffered from dehydration and malnutrition from a lack of basic care over a period of time, according to the preliminary autopsy report from the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office in Fort Worth.

Klapheke, 21, remained in the Taylor County Jail in Abilene with bonds totalling $500,000. She does not yet have an attorney, according to jail records.

The report also shows that the toddler weighed only 17.5 pounds and her body had chemical burns, indicating the child was exposed to human waste.

The toddler died at an Abilene hospital after being found unresponsive at her Dyess Air Force Base home Tuesday.

The woman's two other daughters were treated for severe neglect at a children's hospital in Fort Worth, about 150 miles east of Abilene. They were to be taken out of intensive care soon, Abilene police said.

(CNN) -- A doctor in suburban Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, was arrested Monday and accused in the early morning death of his 9-year-old son, police said.

Dr. Stephen Wolf, 51, faces first-degree murder charges, said Nichols Hills, Oklahoma, Police Chief Richard Mask.

Third-grader Tommy Wolf was dead when authorities arrived at the family's home about 4 a.m. CT in response to several 911 calls, Mask said.

"It was obvious there had been some type of altercation" when police arrived, Mask said. Arriving officers disarmed Wolf, he said, but did not elaborate except to say a knife was found at the home.

Although the investigation is still under way, authorities believe the altercation may have begun in the boy's room "and proceeded from there" to other rooms, Mask said.

Lakeland baby starves and dies in a well-stocked home

This just sounds too evil to believe! How could anyone do this? It's not that they didn't have enough money and since they had other children, it is not as if they didn't know children need to be fed.

LAKELAND — The pantry and refrigerator were full of juice, pasta, snacks and canned food — plenty to fill the bellies of the two adults and five children who lived in the house on Sunshine Drive.

But not enough for the baby.

Only 2 ounces of formula were found Monday in the home where paramedics pronounced an emaciated 5-month-old girl dead. She weighed just 6 pounds.

Chauntasia Gardner starved to death in a house with more beer than infant formula, investigators said, and the Polk County Sheriff's Office blames the parents. Tivasha E. Logan, 25, and her boyfriend, Chauncey Gardner, 27, were charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.

"It is mind-boggling," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said. "I've done this job my entire adult life, and I've seen a lot of violence against children and babies, but I can't ever remember seeing one starve to death. This child was tortured for days on end until she finally died from starvation."

Osceola man accused of murdering his 5-year-old son

This is a case of a 5 year old boy who didn't want to eat his breakfast. A "woman" if you want to use the word, beat him with a belt according to the report. When the 5 year old hit the woman, his father kicked him to death. A 5 year old boy is dead because he didn't want to eat his breakfast!

When we read appalling accounts like this it makes us all wonder what kind of people do things like this. What we tend to not think about is that the life of the child must have been hell all along.

Five-year-old Kenyon Jeriel Ortiz didn't want to eat his breakfast Friday.

The boy's childish act angered his father's girlfriend, Frances Marie Rodriguez, who swatted him with a belt, investigators said.

Kenyon responded by hitting her back.

Melvin Ortiz wasn't going to let his son's behavior stand. He beat and kicked the child -- so hard the boy died hours later, according to authorities.

Now Ortiz, 28, is charged with murder and Rodriguez, 24, is charged with child neglect and battery. The Poinciana couple were arrested Tuesday and appeared in Osceola County Court on Wednesday.
