Oklahoma Veterans Center investigation raises more questions

Veterans Center investigation raises more questions

By Carol Cole-Frowe

Some of the resident veterans at the 301-bed center and their families had leveled allegations that included understaffing to the point that there are not appropriate levels of care for higher-level care residents, residents being injured excessively and unsanitary conditions in parts of the center.

Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Norman Lamb and former ODVA executive director Phillip Driskill promised an independent investigation during a June 4 meeting with veterans' family members and two area legislators at the state Capitol.

Those family members remain unconvinced that enough has been done, however, along with state Rep. Wallace Collins, D-Norman, and state Rep. Al Lindley, D-Oklahoma City, who attended the meeting at the Capitol .

"I was kind of dismayed and surprised because I didn't think it was very complete," said Collins, in whose district the center is located.
